Trendy elegance or laid back charm ?
The biggie here is always the budget, if you are working on a strict budget, then it would make good financial sense to hire your suit as well as the groomsmen’s suits at the same place, great deals can be negotiated with most hiring chains to secure the best possible value for money. Remember that hired suits must be returned promptly after the event or else you will incur a penalty.
So appoint a trusted groomsman to gather the suits after the wedding and return them to the hiring company on your behalf.
Keep in mind that if there is any damage to the hired suits, you will be liable for any repair costs or if there has been an accident with a glass of wine or champagne, you will foot the bill for any dry cleaning costs that the hiring company will penalize you for.
Now, let us take a look at buying your suit as well as that of the groomsmen. It is definitely an indulgence, and if this is what you have decided to do, then I presume that you have budgeted for the expense, of not only your suit, but that of all your groomsmen as well. You may be thinking that your wedding might be the only excuse you will have to splash out on a designer suit.

If you want something really special, that you will feel totally comfortable in then, yes, a bought, tailor-made suit will be just up your alley, your tailor can hide any little area that you are not too happy with (a bit of a tummy, maybe). You will also have a suit that is one of a kind, unique only to you. Remember, that purchasing ready-made suits can be great value for money, but having one tailor-made may set you back in terms of your budget.
Check on the quality and fabric of a ready-made suit, as not all suits are up to wedding standards, you do not want to buy something that is not going to give you great wear after the event. This goes for the groomsmen’s suits as well.
The time of day as well as season for your wedding is also a determining factor, on the style that you decide to choose.
Summer weddings are ideal for that light-weight breathable fabric as well as a lighter colour. If the wedding is a little more informal, the groom can even get away with an open-necked shirt, without a tie.
If your wedding is in the winter or the cooler months of the year, you may even want to go for waistcoats.
They always seem to just round off that wedding look. Of course the traditional tuxedo is very much around still, and for a formal wedding, the look is wonderful, complementing the formal bridal gown on your special day.
Accessories play a huge part in finishing off your look, and this is maybe where you and the groomsmen can indulge in a bit of fun. Either match your ties or bowties to the colour scheme of the bridesmaids dresses, or go out on a limb and do the funky thing! Consider skinny ties, fat ties or bowties, none of the ties have to match, they can have different patterns as well, as long as they carry a similar colour, to the rest of the wedding décor. This does not mean that you can go outlandishly different, it just means that you can be different in a funky but elegant way.
Think about the future wear of this suit, a traditional style is not likely to date, so you need to think of future use. Buying a suit mean’s that it is officially yours and bought as a symbol of the love you share on your big day. There will be occasions that you will wear this again in the future, from job interviews to formal dinner events, so think of buying your suit, as an investment.
You do not know what curve ball life will throw at you down the line, and with a suit that you own, you will be ready in a flash to grab hold of every opportunity that comes your way.
It is always said that all eyes are on the bride on the wedding day, but she would not be there without the groom standing beside her. So, you deserve to look your best and feel your best from head to toe. That means elegant, dashing, fragrant and accessorized to the hilt. A well dressed groom is a happy groom.
